New York Civil Rights Violation Lawyer from The Perecman Firm Supports Protest of NYPD Stop and Frisk Policy

NEW YORK, NY, October 26, 2011 /24-7PressRelease/ -- New York civil rights violation lawyers at The Perecman Firm support last weeks protest against the New York City Police Department's stop and frisk policy.

Protesters, including hundreds of teens, marched over the Brooklyn Bridge to protest alleged civil rights violations in New York. According to the New York Daily News, the majority of the protesters were minority teens claiming to have been unfairly targeted by police officers.

One marcher said he was stopped and questioned by NYPD officers "some 20 times" for reasons including, "You looked suspicious," or "This is just part of a routine," reported by the New York Daily News.

The NYPD's use of the controversial stop and frisk tactic has brought the department under criticism from a number of New York civil rights violation lawyers and various advocacy groups.

"Racial profiling diminishes the integrity and accountability of law enforcement agencies. Black and Latino children should feel that they can turn to the police for help, but stop and frisk incidents where they are presumed guilty, even when they are not, erodes critically needed trust," said New York civil rights violation lawyer David Perecman, founder of The Perecman Firm, one of New York's civil violation law firms.

Organizers of the protest, said blacks and Latinos are nine times as likely as whites to be stopped and frisked by the NYPD. Recent police department data show that only about 12% of these stops have led to an arrest or a summons, reported the New York Daily News.
