Salaries for Accounting Professionals on the Rise; AccountingCrossing Aspires to Add More Accounting Jobs to Its Site
With growing salaries in the accounting industry, AccountingCrossing aims to update its website with each and every job opening that offers a lucrative salary. According to IMA's 19th Annual Salary Survey, It has already added about 34,000 accounting jobs to its database in July.

/Employment - Careers News Articles/ - PASADENA, CA, July 17, 2008 - Despite the economic slowdown, AccountingCrossing (www.accountingcrossing.com) has continuously updated its database with the latest accounting job announcements. In December 2007 AccountingCrossing's job count stood at 17,000. This figure is now 79,000, reflecting a 350% increase. Unlike other job-search and career sites, AccountingCrossing weeds out spam and inactive jobs, allowing job seekers to search efficiently and specifically.

In spite of economic woes in the United States and an increasing number of corporate layoffs, accounting and finance professionals are receiving better salaries and compensation than ever before. According to the Institute of Management Accountants' 19th Annual Salary Survey, the average salary of accounting professionals has increased by nearly 7% since 2007. The average salary of these professionals has exceeded $100,000 for the first time in corporate history.

Additionally, the US Department of Labor's Bureau of Labor Statistics' 2008 edition of its Occupational Outlook Handbook states that employment of accountants and auditors is expected to grow by 18% by 2016, which is faster than the average for all occupations it tracks. Furthermore, Robert Half's Salary Guide reports that due to business growth and economic demands, many companies want to employ additional accounting staff in various departments.

According to the Salary Guide, though many employers look for veteran accountants when it comes to filling critical positions, they are quite willing to hire amateurs and entry-level accounting grads and train them. The National Association of Colleges and Employers even states that nearly 58% of companies worldwide are trying to keep up with demand by recruiting accounting graduates with little or no experience.

"Industries such as retail, real estate, and manufacturing have faced the maximum job cuts in this economic downturn. However, the accounting profession is one industry which is sure to progress by leaps and bounds because of the increasing demand for accounting professionals in today's times," says A. Harrison Barnes, founder and CEO of AccountingCrossing.

According to Barnes, the job counts for the most popular job titles on AccountingCrossing are as follows:

• Payroll clerk: 4,000
• Cost accounting specialist: 3,963
• Auditor: 3,040
• Accounting supervisor: 2,100
• Accounting director: 1,910

AccountingCrossing updates its website with the most recent accounting jobs. The accounting job board has about 78,000 active accounting jobs in its database in the second week of July, and the number is expected to get a further boost in a few days.
